Legoland Billund Denmark
Our Family Holiday Experience
DENMARK

When you think of Denmark, it might feel like it’s tucked away in a far corner of Europe. I always thought so too—until I realized Legoland Billund is only an 8-hour drive from the Netherlands. That’s closer than I imagined, and for Lego-loving kids, it’s the ultimate holiday destination.
In this post, I’ll share how we planned our trip, where we stayed, and what our experience was like with an unlimited Legoland pass. Plus, I’ll add some family travel essentials that made our holiday smoother (perfect if you’re planning your own trip).
Our Route: A Stop in Hamburg
Driving from the Netherlands, we passed through Germany and decided to break up the journey with an overnight stop in Hamburg. This was a great choice—not only did we rest, but we also got to explore this vibrant city. If you’re traveling with kids, Hamburg’s harbor area and miniature museum (Miniatur Wunderland) are worth visiting.
After a good night’s sleep, we continued on to Billund, home of Lego.

Where We Stayed in Billund
We booked our trip via TUI.nl and stayed one week in Legoland Village, a family-friendly accommodation right next to the park. It was practical, cozy, and perfectly designed for families with children—think playgrounds, themed rooms, and walking distance to Legoland.

If you’re looking for something a bit more special, here are two other great options:

For the ultimate Lego experience, this hotel is magical. With themed castle rooms, kids feel like little knights and princesses. It’s pricier, but if you want a once-in-a-lifetime stay, this is the place.
This is a family paradise with a tropical water park, bowling, mini-golf, and lots of indoor activities. It’s perfect if you want more variety beyond Legoland, especially if you’re staying longer.
Why the Unlimited Pass Was Worth It
We had an unlimited pass for Legoland Park, which was the best decision we made. With kids, flexibility is everything. We didn’t feel pressured to “do it all in one day.” Instead, we could take our time, revisit favorite rides, and head back to the hotel when the little ones needed a break.
Legoland is packed with attractions—roller coasters, water rides, interactive zones, and, of course, the stunning Lego-built miniature worlds. The unlimited pass allowed us to spread out our visit over the week, making it a relaxed experience instead of a rushed one.

Family Travel Essentials for Legoland Billund
Traveling with kids requires good preparation. Here are some essentials we packed that made our trip much easier (and you can easily shop them via Amazon):

Comfortable Backpacks – Perfect for carrying snacks, water, and rain jackets.
Reusable Water Bottles – Staying hydrated is key when exploring a theme park.
Rain Ponchos – Denmark’s weather can be unpredictable, so these are a lifesaver.
Portable Power Bank – Great for keeping your phone charged for maps, photos, and videos.
Lightweight Stroller – If you’re traveling with younger kids, this makes walking around much easier.
Packing Cubes – To keep everyone’s clothes organized during the road trip and hotel stay.
